2010 Math Olympics and Spelling Bee Winners

 

2010 Math Olympics

 

Several students from Carolina Christian School in grades third through eighth were invited to participate in the Math Olympics competition. This event was held on February 24 at Lake Norman Christian School in Huntersville. Students took a series of four timed tests that focus on either computation or reasoning skills. The winners in each category were able to answer the most questions accurately.

 

The following students from CCS were presented a winning ribbon in the area of computation:

 

Annslie Burris (Third Grade) – 3rd Place

Carrie Conard (Fourth Grade) – 2nd Place

Sia Olomua (Fourth Grade) – 4th Place

Zane McCarthy (Fifth Grade) – 2nd Place

Bailey Freeburn (Sixth Grade) – 2nd Place

Danni Huber (Sixth Grade) – 4th Place

Conner Flowe (Seventh Grade) – 2nd Place

Emily Massey (Seventh Grade) – 4th Place

Chelsea Burris (Eighth Grade) – 2nd Place

Becka Crayton (Eighth Grade) – 5th Place

 

The following students from CCS were presented a winning ribbon in the area of reasoning:

 

Bryson Birmingham (Third Grade) – 3rd Place

Dylan Bisbee (Fifth Grade) – 1st Place Medal

Connor Emery (Sixth Grade) – 5th Place

Abby Carr (Seventh Grade) – 5th Place

Chloe Burris (Eighth Grade) – 1st Place Medal

Evan Morrison (Eighth Grade) – 5th Place

 

2010 Spelling Bees

 

On March 2, Wesleyan Christian School in High Point hosted the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) Spelling Bee for fifth through eighth graders. Winners from CCS included:


Dylan Bisbee (Fifth Grade) – 3rd Place

Reiley Burris (Seventh Grade) – 3rd Place

Chloe Burris (Eighth Grade) – 1st Place

Chelsea Burris (Eighth Grade) – 3rd Place

Morgan Tenhengel (Eighth Grade) – 5th Place

 

Chloe Burris went on to place 4th in the finals at the Wesleyan Christian School Spelling Bee to become eligible to participate in the Southeastern Regional Spelling Bee held in Atlanta on April 10. In this competition, she finished in the top twelve.

Carolina Christian School had the privilege of hosting the ACSI Spelling Bee on March 19 for first through fourth grade students. Participating schools also included Hickory Grove Baptist Church Christian School in Charlotte and First Assembly Christian School in Winston Salem. Winners from CCS included:

 

Jordan Little (First Grade) – 3rd Place

Amanda Barker (Second Grade) – 2nd Place

Annslie Burris (Third Grade) – 2nd Place

Trey Burris (Third Grade) – 4th Place

Christian Little (Fourth Grade) – 2nd Place

Lauren White (Fourth Grade) – 3rd Place
